NPP has run out of ideas ahead of 2028 elections – Nanton MP

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Nanton, Dr. Abdul-Khaliq Mohammed Sherif, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of running out of ideas, claiming the opposition has no credible message to take to voters ahead of the 2028 elections.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on February 5, 2026, Dr. Sherif said the NPP’s record in government has been discredited by the current NDC administration’s performance, leaving the party with only slogans and propaganda.

“In all honesty, the NPP do not have anything else to campaign on,” he said.

“Ghanaians remember the economic hardship, unemployment, and abandoned projects they left behind. Today, under the NDC government, we are stabilizing the economy, investing in infrastructure, and restoring confidence. What new message can they bring?”

Dr. Sherif emphasized improvements under the NDC, including better macroeconomic indicators, ongoing road and school projects, and renewed support for agriculture, particularly in northern constituencies like Nanton.

He cited local achievements such as road repairs, water projects, and support for farmers and youth as evidence of the government’s impact.

The MP dismissed NPP criticisms as “desperate attempts to stay relevant” and urged the opposition to engage in issue-based politics.

“If they have a better vision, let them put it on the table. But as it stands, they are stuck defending a record that Ghanaians have rejected,” he said.

Dr. Sherif expressed confidence that visible government projects and improvements will secure voter support.

“Ghanaians are seeing roads being fixed, hospitals resourced, fuel prices reduced and schools supported,” he said.
