NPP National Youth Organizer retracts and apologizes for defamatory comment against Prof Gyampo

National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mohammed Mustapha

National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has issued a public apology to Professor Ransford Gyampo, a political science lecturer at the University of Ghana and the president of the University of Ghana chapter of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UG-TAG).

This apology comes after the NPP Youth Organizer alleged that Prof. Gyampo was conspiring with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to disenfranchise students using the UTAG strike as a cover.

In his retraction statement, Mustapha admits that he has no evidence to support his previous claims.

“Given that I have no evidence to back the allegations I made against Prof Gyampo, I hereby retract and render an unqualified apology to him,” he said in a statement provided to Metro TV.

Salam Mustapha’s initial statement accused Prof. Gyampo of working with the NDC to manipulate students, claiming that Prof. Gyampo was motivated by the promise of a political appointment in a future NDC government.

Furthermore, Salam Mustapha alleged that Prof. Gyampo had an international reputation for unethical conduct with students.

Prof. Gyampo had threatened legal action against Mustapha, describing the allegations as “baseless defamatory”.
