NPP performing poorly even out of power – Beatrice Annan claims

A member of the governing National Democratic Congress communications team, Beatrice Annan, has criticised the New Patriotic Party for what she describes as weak and ineffective communication, even in opposition.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Annan told host Moro Awudu she was not surprised by the NPP’s current struggles, arguing that the party failed to communicate clearly even when it was in government.

According to her, the role of an opposition party is to scrutinise and challenge the government, but she believes the NPP has fallen short of that responsibility. She said the party appears disorganised and lacks the clarity expected of an opposition with no governing burden.

“I can understand that the duty of the opposition party is to criticise, but I think the NPP is doing a very poor job,” Annan said. “Maybe they have to go back, reorganise, and come back. They are really doing a terrible job.”

She added that the NPP’s communication difficulties have persisted across political cycles, describing the situation as even worse now that the party is out of power.

“I have never seen a group of people struggle so much with communication in power and then struggle even more in opposition,” she said. “In opposition, you should be very eloquent because you do not have any burden.”

Annan further argued that the NPP’s record in government has weakened its credibility to criticise current policies, claiming the party lost its moral authority due to poor management of the country.

“They mismanaged this country so badly that they have lost the moral right to talk about anything, especially when everything they are talking about now is five times better than how they left it,” she stated.

Turning to the performance of the NDC administration, Annan said party supporters have reason to be confident, while also stressing the need for focus and accountability.

“For us in the NDC, we should be very proud,” she said. “But one thing that is not lost on President Mahama is that he has a four-year mandate, and it is clear that our micro indicators are showing the economy is recovering.”
