President John Mahama’s pick for Public Sector Reforms, Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, has disclosed that her appointment was terminated when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) assumed office in 2017.
She gave an assurance that her approach would focus on implementing measures to improve efficiency, rather than resorting to dismissals, in the public sector.
Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba told the Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, February 24, 2025, during her vetting.
Madam Akanvariba unveiled her blueprint for transforming the public sector, prioritizing enhanced productivity, operational efficiency, and equitable compensation for workers. “My vision for the public sector is to create an efficient and responsive system that delivers on the government’s agenda and meets the needs of the people,” she told the Appointments Committee.
Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba emphasized the crucial role of good working environments, training, and capacity building in enhancing productivity and efficiency during her vetting.
She proposed collaborating with state and non-state actors to leverage new technologies and improve service delivery.
Furthermore, Madam Akanvariba pledged to empower women in business and ensure that public sector reforms contribute to national development, fostering a conducive work environment that promotes employee well-being, collaboration, and innovation.
