NPP To Challenge EC Over 19-Polling Station Re-Run In Court

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly rejected the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to re-run elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North constituency, describing the move as unilateral and lacking transparency.

At a press conference held in Accra today, the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, firmly denied that the party had agreed to the expanded re-run as claimed by the EC, following a meeting held on July 1.

“We were informed by the EC earlier that only three polling station results were in dispute. This abrupt expansion to 19 polling stations is both unexpected and unacceptable,” Kodua stated. “We raised serious concerns about this inconsistency during our engagement with the Commission.”

The party now plans to challenge the EC’s decision in court if it is not immediately withdrawn. According to Mr. Kodua, the NPP believes the EC’s shift undermines the integrity of the electoral process and casts doubt on the Commission’s neutrality.

“The latest decision raises serious concerns about consistency and transparency. We demand clarity from the Commission about the sudden change in the number of affected polling stations,” he said.

The EC has yet to issue an official response to the NPP’s allegations or clarify its position regarding the expanded scope of the re-run.

The controversy comes in the wake of disputed results from the recent general elections, with Ablekuma North emerging as a flashpoint.
