NPP withdraws from Media General Platforms over alleged bias

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced its withdrawal from all Media General platforms, citing alleged bias and unprofessionalism.

This decision comes after months of engagement with Media General to address concerns about “unprintable attacks” on leading NPP figures, biased paneling, and disruptive hosting of political shows.

Mr. Richard Ahiagbah, Director of Communications for the NPP, said the party has been frustrated by the lack of meaningful change despite repeated assurances from Media General since 2023.

He cited a specific incident where a regular guest on TV3 made inflammatory remarks about former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, which the host failed to challenge or stop.

The NPP also raised concerns about biased paneling on TV3’s political shows, particularly “Key Points” and “Newday.”

The party accused Media General of assembling panels that heavily favor the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the NPP.

“We invite the general public to objectively assess the paneling, hosting, and general coverage of the NPP on Media General platforms,” Mr. Ahiagbah stated.

“They will see that these unfair practices exist and are targeted at the NPP.”

The NPP assured its supporters and the Ghanaian people that its commitment to holding the current administration accountable will not be affected by this decision.

The party vowed to fulfill its responsibilities as the largest opposition party in Ghana.
