A group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth in the Nanton Constituency of the Northern Region have locked up the party’s constituency office in protest against the suspension of some members.
The suspension, which affected about 34 polling station executives, was reportedly due to their alleged involvement in the party’s defeat in the constituency during the 2024 general elections.
However, the youth have described the suspension as “illegal” and are demanding its immediate revocation to save the party from further divisions.
According to Ibrahim Abdul Fataw, spokesperson for the group, the party needs unity and cohesion at this moment, rather than “distractive measures” of suspending loyal party members without following due process.
The youth have given the party leadership a one-week ultimatum to revoke the suspension, warning that their next action will not be “friendly” if their demands are not met.
