Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has slammed the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation’s (GBC) Director General for his response to allegations surrounding the $3 million payment for the 13th African Games.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Haruna Mohammed criticized the Director General’s “unsolicited” response, stating it was “born out of a bad place.”
He emphasized that the Sports Minister’s clarification revealed the facts, and demanded further explanation from the GBC Director General.
“He should be questioned to clarify matters and provide documentation.”
The controversy revolves around the payment for GBC’s services as the official broadcaster.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports clarified that the total agreed amount was $3.6 million, with $2.5 million paid directly to GBC and $1 million to third-party service providers as per GBC’s instructions.
However, the GBC Director General claimed GBC received only $105,000, prompting Haruna Mohammed to call for transparency and accountability.
