NSA readies Accra Sports Stadium for Black Stars’ AFCON qualifier against Sudan

The National Sports Authority (NSA) is working tirelessly to prepare the Accra Sports Stadium for Ghana’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sudan.

With only a few weeks left until the match, there has been growing optimism after pictures of a significantly improved pitch surfaced on social media.

Ghana had been temporarily hosting matches at the Baba Yara Stadium, but after the Black Stars’ defeat to Angola, concerns about the poor condition of the pitch arose. This led to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) imposing a ban on the stadium, requiring it to meet international standards before hosting further high-profile matches.

Fears mounted that Ghana might have to play their home games abroad, with Ivory Coast and Togo mentioned as potential venues. However, the Ministry of Youth and Sports reassured fans that Ghana still had other venues capable of meeting CAF’s requirements, including the Accra Sports Stadium and Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

The Baba Yara Stadium was closed for renovations, and the NSA has since focused on preparing alternative venues. With the recent developments at the Accra Sports Stadium, hopes have risen that Ghana will be able to host their crucial home game against Sudan on home soil.
