NSMQ 2025 GRAND FINALE: Botwe, Owass & Augusco Set for a Historic Showdown- Who wins?

The countdown is on — and Ghana’s biggest academic battlefield is ready to explode. The 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) Grand Finale promises a blockbuster clash of intellects as Mfantsipim School (BOTWE), Opoku Ware School (OWASS), and St. Augustine’s College (AUGUSCO) lock horns for ultimate supremacy.

Set for Thursday, November 6, at the SGS Auditorium, University of Cape Coast, the finale is more than a contest of science and logic — it’s a collision of legacy, prestige, and pure academic firepower. Together, the three schools boast seven national titles, an unmatched legacy of brilliance, and a fierce hunger for one more crown.

Mfantsipim School – The Defending Champions

Reigning champions Mfantsipim School, affectionately called BOTWE, enter the final as the team to beat. Their semifinal demolition of GSTS and Mankranso SHS reaffirmed their authority as defending kings. Having lifted the national trophy three times (1999, 2014, 2024), BOTWE now stand on the brink of a rare back-to-back triumph — a feat that would etch their name deeper into NSMQ folklore.

Their calm precision, tactical depth, and history of dominance make them the favorites. Few can forget their runner-up finishes in 2000 and 2016 or their Central Regional title in 2021. This year, despite a third-runner-up spot regionally, BOTWE’s national form has been ruthless. They return to Cape Coast with a simple mission: defend the throne or die trying.

Opoku Ware School – The Royals of Resurgence

From the Ashanti heartland comes Opoku Ware School (OWASS) — regal, relentless, and roaring back to glory. The two-time champions (1997, 2002) brushed aside St. Peter’s SHS and Achimota School in a semifinal masterclass, signaling their intent.

OWASS have been there, done that, and are desperate to do it again. With seven runner-up finishes (1995, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2016, 2020, 2023) and the 2025 Ashanti Regional Championship title, they enter this year’s final with renewed confidence and strategic brilliance. It’s been over 20 years since their last NSMQ crown — and the Royals are ready to reclaim their throne.

St. Augustine’s College – The Saints on a Mission

The Saints are marching in again. St. Augustine’s College (AUGUSCO) return to the grand finale driven by faith, focus, and fierce determination. Their semifinal triumph over Pope John SHS and Amaniampong SHS showcased their trademark composure and tactical flair.

With national titles in 2007 and 2019, AUGUSCO are chasing a third to complete a perfect trinity. Their impressive Central Regional record — champions in 2019, runners-up in 2020 and 2022 — proves their consistency. Now, after five years away from the national crown, the Saints are hungry for redemption.

The Stage Is Set

Three giants. One crown. Endless bragging rights.
Will BOTWE make history with back-to-back glory?
Can OWASS reclaim royal pride?
Or will AUGUSCO rise again to rule the NSMQ kingdom?

Whatever unfolds on November 6, one thing is certain — the 2025 NSMQ Grand Finale will deliver an unforgettable clash of brains, legacy, and destiny, as Ghana crowns its next champion of science and intellect.
