NUGS Demands Immediate Release Of Delayed Students’ Loan

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) is demanding from Government and the Students’ Loan Trust Fund to as a matter of urgency release the delayed students’ loan to the awaiting students.

According to NUGS, the delays in the release of the funds are causing huge problems to students who are on the loan.

In a statement co-signed by the President of the Union, Dennis Appiah Ampofo-Larbi copied to Metrotvonline.com, NUGS has received numerous complaints from students nationwide over the non-payment of the funds despite long period after the application.

The statement added about 70,000 students are currently affected by the delays. While some of the them are on the verge of missing registration deadlines, others are going to miss mid-semester exams which makes the situation very unpleasant for these affected students.

“…some institutions have issued notices, warning students of closing registration deadline, an example is University of Business and Integrated Development (UBIDS-WA) amongst others. KNUST is set to write mid-semester exams from 27th of February, 2023. It’s unfortunate that several of our student’s risk not being able to write the exams due to inability to pay their fees as a result of non-payment of student loans”, NUGS lamented.

With this challenge facing students who are already on students loan and those who have applied for the facility, NUGS is calling on government to immediately honor its obligations to these frustrated and desperate students.

Meanwhile, NUGS is calling on the agitated students to remain calm as the office take measures to assist them.

“We by this statement call on the Student Loan Trust Fund and the Government, to as a matter of urgency, pay qualified applicants of the student loan immediately. Students are at risk of deferring if loans are not paid immediately”, the statement emphasized.
