NYA boss urges youth to lead environmental volunteerism

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Osman Ayariga, has urged young people to take the lead in protecting the environment through volunteer work such as tree planting and recycling.

Speaking at the 2025 French Volunteering Day celebration at Alliance Française in Accra, Mr. Ayariga said youth participation in environmental action is key to building a generation that values conservation and national development.

“We believe it is central to our mission to instill a deep sense of patriotism in our young people and contribute significantly to our nation’s progress,” he said.

He announced that the Authority will soon launch School Volunteerism Clubs in Junior and Senior High Schools to help nurture the spirit of volunteerism from an early age.

The event, held under the theme “Volunteering and the Environment: Small Actions for the Planet, Concrete Steps for the Future,” focused on encouraging environmental responsibility through small but consistent acts of service.

Mr. Telngar Rassembeye, National Representative of France Volontaires in Togo and Ghana, said this year’s celebration sought to highlight volunteer missions that directly or indirectly support the environment. He added that the aim was to give more visibility to people contributing to ecological transition and to motivate others to join in.

Representatives from the French Embassy in Ghana, the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, and the Office of the Volta Regional Minister attended the event.
