Residents of Ando and Nkpaya, two cocoa farming communities in the Oti Region, are appealing for urgent government support to repair their main road which they describe as a death trap.
The people say the poor state of the road, especially the broken bridge linking the two communities, has made life unbearable for farmers, traders, teachers, and schoolchildren. According to residents, the situation is threatening livelihoods and putting lives at risk on a daily basis.
Community members are calling on the Municipal Chief Executive, the area’s Member of Parliament, the Oti Regional Minister, and non-governmental organizations to intervene before tragedy strikes. They fear that without immediate action, both economic activity and education will continue to suffer.
“The road has become too dangerous. Teachers find it difficult to come, traders cannot move their goods, and even children struggle to go to school,” one resident lamented.
The residents insist that a new road and a proper bridge are urgently needed to reconnect their towns and ease the hardship they face.
