Italian club US Sassuolo Calcio have announced the signing of Ghanaian midfielder Kakari Ibrahim Sulemana from Atalanta BC.
The 23-year-old joins the Neroverdi on a loan deal with an option to buy until June 30, 2027, as Sassuolo strengthen their midfield options ahead of the new campaign.
Born in Sunyani, Ghana, Sulemana began his football journey with his hometown club before moving to Italy in 2019 after participating in several trials. His performances caught the attention of Atalanta, who signed him for their Under-17 team.
After two seasons in Atalanta’s youth system, Sulemana moved to Hellas Verona’s Primavera side, where he continued his development. During the Under-19 championship, he recorded 18 appearances, one goal and three assists.
His progress earned him his first opportunities in Serie A during the 2022/23 season. Sulemana made his top-flight debut against Salernitana on October 9, 2022, and later played the full 90 minutes in the crucial Serie A relegation playoff between Hellas Verona and Spezia at the Mapei Stadium, helping Verona retain their place in Italy’s top division.
In the summer of 2023, he joined newly promoted Cagliari, where he made 24 appearances and scored two goals. He later returned to Atalanta, featuring nine times and scoring twice, including a decisive goal that helped the club secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
Sulemana then continued his career through loan spells, first joining Bologna before returning to Cagliari in January. During the second half of the season with the Sardinian club, he made 16 appearances and scored once, playing a key role in helping Cagliari comfortably avoid relegation.
At international level, Sulemana received his first call-up to the Ghana national team in 2024 for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He made his debut on June 6 against Mali and has since earned six more appearances for the Black Stars.
With his move to Sassuolo, Ibrahim Sulemana begins a new chapter in his Italian football journey.
