Ofori-Atta will face trial even in death – Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency

Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, has warned that former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, will face justice, even in death, if he fails to return to Ghana.

This comes on the heels of the declaration of Mr. Ofori-Atta as a suspect in five high-profile corruption investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on February 12, 2025.

Mr. Gbande emphasized that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure Ken Ofori-Atta’s return to Ghana and recover any public funds he allegedly embezzled.

“If Ken Ofori-Atta refuses to come, every measure will be deployed to bring him back,” Mr. Gbande stated.

“If, for any reason, he passes on, his dead body will be prosecuted and jailed, and every stolen penny belonging to the people of Ghana will be retrieved,” he told JoyNews.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on Wednesday, February 12, declared former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a suspect in four high-profile corruption investigations, including cases related to the National Cathedral project, Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML), and two other cases.

At a press briefing in Accra, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng noted that Ofori-Atta is now a wanted person and must return to Ghana immediately to face questioning.

He warned that failure to comply would result in steps being taken to compel his return.

He dismissed claims that Ofori-Atta had left the country for medical treatment, insisting that the former minister must cooperate with the ongoing investigations.
