Former Health Minister Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye has been elected Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), defeating Alfred Boye in the party’s regional executive elections held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
Dr. Okoe-Boye secured 490 votes, while Alfred Boye polled 172 votes, giving the former Health Minister a commanding 318-vote margin.
His victory places him at the centre of the NPP’s efforts to rebuild its political organisation and electoral fortunes in the Greater Accra Region ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The election comes at a crucial period for the NPP, following a significant decline in its parliamentary representation in Greater Accra during the 2024 general elections.
The party, which had previously secured 14 parliamentary seats in the region, now holds five of the 34 constituencies, according to the figures cited in the election campaign. Dr. Okoe-Boye himself has previously described Greater Accra as critical to the NPP’s prospects of returning to power.
