One person has died and 10 others have been injured after two passenger vehicles collided head-on on the Somanya-Nkurakan Highway in the Eastern Region.
The crash happened in the early hours of Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Akode No. 2, a community before Asseseso.
The vehicles, both Hyundai H100s with registration numbers ER 1660-21 and ER 1564-21, were travelling in opposite directions when they collided.
The male driver of one of the vehicles died at the scene, while the 10 injured passengers were taken to the Yilo Krobo District Hospital in Somanya for treatment.
Firefighters from the Kpong Fire Station in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality were called to the scene to assist with the rescue operation.
The officers worked to free the deceased driver and injured passengers who had become trapped inside the badly damaged vehicles.
The circumstances leading to the collision are not yet clear.
Authorities are yet to provide further details on the cause of the crash or the current condition of those receiving treatment.
