Today, September 6, 2025, marks one month since the devastating helicopter crash that shook the nation. On August 6, 2025, a military helicopter carrying eight prominent individuals, including top government officials and military personnel, went down in Adansi Akrofuom, Ashanti Region, claiming their lives.
The lives lost include Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, a medical doctor, seasoned politician and leader who dedicated his life to serving Ghana. Environment Minister Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed was also among the victims, a respected figure in Ghanaian politics known for his commitment to environmental conservation.
Others who lost their lives were Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed, a dedicated public servant; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), a stalwart of Ghanaian politics; and Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director General of NADMO whose promising career was cut short.
The military personnel on board were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, a skilled and dedicated officer; Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, a brave and talented pilot; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, a committed member of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The helicopter crash occurred while the passengers were en route to Obuasi to launch the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme. The impact of their loss is still being felt across the country, with many remembering their contributions to Ghana’s development. As the nation mourns the loss of these eight individuals, their families, friends, and colleagues take comfort in the memories of their lives and legacies. May their souls rest in peace.
