I hesitate to apply this to the newly sworn-in administration, but are they intentionally inciting people to breach security at several places, including Obuasi, Electoral Commission work, and others, to prove a point?
If the administration fails to act, I hope that parliament will not err in asking the appointed and yet to be confirmed Interior Minister to prepare appropriately to answer urgent questions related to the incident at Obuasi.
The people deserve to know whether or not people and executives within the governing party, NDC, have contributed to or incited people to breach and disregard men in uniform, i.e., Military, Police, etc.
The NDC leadership is to support the Constitution of Ghana and, as members of Parliament or officers of Ghana, abhor anyone engaged in insurrection, rebellion, or attack on the Constitution or security personnel.
Is the NDC giving comfort to people within their party or giving aid to the enemies of the State. Two-thirds of parliament must work to remove any such persons of our street or imprison any such persons found to be supporting any action against the rule of law in the Nation.
The acts of some of these people during election, after election or even swearing in have been serious crimes and should be seen as such. The administration must provide to all Ghanaians evidence, decisions and law enforcement of the decisions that are acceptable and must make such actions by individuals punishable, so we deter others.
The Constitution empowers any parliamentarian to demand thorough report on the many incidents of violence or instances where ordinary citizens are incited to disobey men in uniform or to take possession of state institutions/ property or individual property without appropriate court orders or authorization.
There is no lack of Constitutional authority to enforce law and order after a new administration is sworn into power or is there? If there are significant limitations by the people with State Power and Authority, please the new administration should say it or say so for the public to appreciate the limitations.
The behaviour of these people is incongruous to any law of the nation for post-election, post swearing in acts of violence. This is a uniquely important national interest, and an urgent question must be put on the floor on parliament.
Nothing in the Constitution requires that Ghana endure the chaos that could result if further such deaths and incident happen or gets repeated. Government action and inaction are being watched by the ordinary people, and I am sure the Speaker of Parliament is interested in such national discussions.
The behaviour is disrupting the already peaceful transfer of power by intentionally organizing and inciting people to stand against security services. We want legislative people who are not disloyal to Ghana and will uphold the good name of Ghana.
We all need an enduring democracy. Any attack on people in uniform or officers of the state is a rebellion against the Government of Ghana and the people. There must be preventative measures and severe penalty rather than mere talk and loyalty to the NDC party. We will continue to seek JUSTICE and Protection under the LAW.
Thanks
