Former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo has acknowledged that parts of the data compiled under the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative during his tenure were unverified and included what he described as “garbage” entries.
Speaking on Joy News on Tuesday, October 22, Mr. Domelevo admitted that the figures initially announced by the ORAL task force were based solely on public submissions and not on any verified investigations.
“I completely agree,” he said, responding to comments by the Deputy Attorney General that the projected $21 billion recovery estimate under ORAL was unrealistic.
Mr. Domelevo explained that the ORAL team was primarily tasked with collecting and documenting allegations of financial loss and misappropriation, not verifying them.
He said the data compilation process lacked proper due diligence and should not have been interpreted as verified evidence of corruption.
“The team was simply gathering information from the public — not auditing or investigating. Some of those entries turned out to be garbage,” he noted.
