The President John Dramani Mahama-led administration has revoked the appointment of Mr Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo as the Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
Consequently, the contracts of his three deputies have also been terminated. They are Mr Kwame Adu-Darkwa, Deputy Director-General, Finance and Administration, Ms Juliana Kpedekpo, Deputy Director-General, Operations and Benefits, and Nana Serwah Bonsu Amoako, Deputy Director-General, Investment and Development.
The decision is part of the new administration’s efforts to restructure the Trust.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in April 2024 terminated the appointment of Dr John Ofori Tenkorang as the Director-General of SSNIT and replaced him with Mr Osafo-Maafo.
The changes at the time led to the resignation of Mr Michael Addo, then Deputy Director-General in charge of Finance and Administration.
Additionally, Pearl Nana Ama Darko, formerly the Deputy Director-General for Operations and Benefits, was reassigned to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) as Commissioner for Support Services, and was replaced by Ms Juliana Kpedekpo.
The tenure of the three top SSNIT bosses was marked with several weeks of agitations and pressure by the Organised Labour after it initiated processes to divest 60% of its stake in four hotels.
The Organised Labour threatened to embark on a nationwide strike and directed their members to stay away from work if SSNIT fails to cancel the controversial hotel sale.
However, in a statement dated July 12, the Board of SSNIT assured pensioners, contributors and the public of its commitment to managing the affairs of the Trust prudently for the sustainability of the Pension Scheme.
“The Board and Management of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) wish to inform the public that the process to divest 60% of SSNIT’s stake in the hotels has been terminated.
“We wish to assure pensioners, contributors and the public of our commitment to managing the affairs of the Trust prudently for the sustainability of the Pension Scheme.”
