The Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko has brought attention to a disturbing trend in road accidents across Ghana.
Between January and August 2015, the country recorded a staggering 17,000 road accidents.
Tragically, about 2,000 of those involved fatalities, and an additional 11,000 people sustained injuries.
This marks a concerning 7% increase in road-related deaths compared to the same period last year.
Kennedy Osei Nyarko has emphasized the urgent need to address road safety issues. He attributed the majority of these accidents to the impatience of both drivers and passengers.
According to the MP, many accidents could have been prevented if drivers prioritized patience over speed.
“It’s time we take road safety issues seriously on our roads,” Nyarko stated. “Most of these accidents are happening because some drivers and passengers are in too much of a rush. It’s always safer to drive with patience and arrive home safely, rather than speed and risk never making it to your destination.”
Nyarko’s call for improved road safety comes as the nation faces an escalating number of accidents, which continue to put lives at risk.
