The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has launched an investigation into alleged corruption and embezzlement of GH₵1.3 billion from the Unified Petroleum Pricing Fund (UPPF) at the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).
The investigation, which targets former NPA Chief Executive Mustapha Abdul-Hamid and three other officials, seeks to unravel how the funds allegedly disappeared from the UPPF, meant to stabilize petroleum product prices across the country.
Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng announced the investigation at a press conference in Accra, stating that the OSP is probing suspected corruption and related offenses tied to the UPPF scandal.
“The OSP has commenced investigations into suspected corruption and corruption-related offenses in respect of an alleged embezzlement of GH₵1.3 billion from the Unified Petroleum Pricing Fund (UPPF) at the National Petroleum Authority (NPA),” he said.
The three other NPA officials under investigation are Jacob Amuah, UPPF Coordinator; Freda Tandoh, NPA staff; and Wendy Ashong Newman, NPA staff.
Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, who served as NPA CEO during the period under review, is suspected of playing a role in the financial irregularities.
“We are committed to uncovering the full extent of the financial losses and ensuring accountability,” Agyebeng stated, assuring the public that further details would be provided as the investigation progresses.
