OSP questions authenticity of alleged medical report of Ken Ofori-Atta

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has questioned the authenticity of a medical report purportedly belonging to Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta.

In a statement available to Metro TV, the OSP said the alleged medical report, which was circulated on online media, was not submitted to their office by Ofori-Atta or his lawyers.

“We wish to place on record that neither Mr. Ofori-Atta nor his lawyers have submitted any such letter to the OSP,” the notice read.

The OSP further stated that the only correspondence received from Ofori-Atta’s legal representatives was a letter notifying them of a change in his medical condition, but without providing any certified medical records or official documents from a hospital authority.

“It is notable that this alleged hospital letter has been circulated through the media rather than submitted to the law enforcement agency actively investigating him and responsible for decisions regarding his return to Ghana,” the OSP noted.

“No certified medical records or official document from any hospital authority has been submitted to the OSP indicating that Mr. Ofori-Atta is incapacitated or unable to travel to Ghana,” the OSP noted.

Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and is scheduled to undergo surgery on June 13, 2025.

The letter, purportedly from the Urology Department at the Mayo Clinic in the United States, details a diagnosis made following a series of diagnostic tests including MRI scans and a biopsy.

Dr. Paras Shah is named as the lead surgeon for the procedure, with the letter indicating that Ofori-Atta will require a recovery period post-surgery before returning to Ghana.

However, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is disputing the validity of this information, stating that it has not received any official or certified medical documentation confirming the former minister’s condition or inability to return to Ghana.

“To date, no certified medical records or official document from any hospital authority has been submitted to the OSP indicating that Mr. Ofori-Atta is incapacitated or unable to travel to Ghana,” the OSP stated on June 3.
