Otto Addo encourages media to empower Black Stars players with positive narrative

Ghana’s Black Stars Head Coach, Otto Addo, has called on the media to use their influential platform to uplift and support players instead of delivering harsh criticism.

Otto Addo emphasized that the media holds the power to shape the narrative of games and encouraged them to focus on uplifting players rather than tearing them down.

“You have the power. The media have the power to control the narrative of games, not only through the results. And you have the power to lift somebody up,” Otto Addo stated after Ghana’s 2-1 home defeat to Niger in the final game of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers on Monday.

“Even if someone makes a mistake, you have the power to write something positive so that the player can move on. Conversely, you can also choose to bring down a good player if you want.”

Addo pointed out that football is unpredictable, where even the best performances can end in defeat. He stressed that players give their all on the field and deserve respect and support.

“This is normal; the results may not be favorable. But the players really need your support; they give their all. Sometimes, you can be the better team and still lose. That’s just how football works.”

He also took the opportunity to call for peaceful elections in Ghana and prayed for peace in Niger and Sudan.

“Before I conclude, I would like us to take this opportunity to pray for peaceful elections. I don’t want this football game to affect our peace. It’s very important that we keep our country peaceful, no matter the outcomes.

“And let’s also pray for peace in Niger and Sudan, despite our rivalries,” he concluded.
