Ghanaian students studying abroad under government scholarships have expressed deep appreciation for President John Dramani Mahama’s dedication to their welfare, but are pleading for urgent intervention to address pressing financial difficulties.
In a letter to President Mahama, the students noted that their stipends have not been paid for 11 months, and book and health allowances have not been disbursed for two academic years, resulting in severe hardships.
“Many students are facing severe hardships, struggling to pay rent, afford balanced meals, and access proper healthcare,” the letter stated.
Despite commending the government’s efforts in establishing the Student Desk Abroad under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the students emphasized that the reality on the ground remains dire.
They acknowledged the economic and financial challenges inherited by the government but stressed that students abroad are in crisis and require urgent attention.
The students appealed to President Mahama to prioritize the disbursement of their stipends and allowances, expressing trust in his vision and leadership.
“We humbly appeal to you to prioritize the disbursement of our stipends and allowances. We trust in your vision and leadership, and we believe that under your administration, the challenges we face will be addressed with urgency and care,” the letter read.
