Oyoko NPP grassroots protest alleged disqualification in polling station elections

About 100 grassroots members of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Oyoko in the New Juaben North Constituency of the Eastern Region have expressed dissatisfaction and disappointment over what they describe as their alleged disqualification from the party’s ongoing polling station executive elections.

The aggrieved members claim they duly picked up and submitted their nomination forms within the stipulated timelines but were allegedly denied the opportunity to file their nominations by some constituency and regional executives.

Speaking to the media at Oyoko, convener of the group, Emmanuel Opoku, said the actions of the party executives have created anger, division, and disillusionment among loyal grassroots members who have sacrificed their time, resources, and energy for the growth and electoral success of the party.

According to him, the situation threatens to weaken the party’s grassroots structures, which play a crucial role in mobilization and sustaining the strength of the NPP.

Mr. Opoku further stated that the silence of both constituency and regional authorities is being interpreted as tacit approval of the alleged unfair treatment and an attempt to suppress the legitimate concerns of dedicated party members.

He stressed that the group may be left with no option but to seek legal redress to protect the democratic rights of party members.

He, however, appealed to the party’s National Executive Council to intervene swiftly and ensure that justice, fairness, and due process prevail in the constituency.

According to him, the party’s chances of victory in the 2028 general elections will depend largely on fairness, transparency, and unity from the polling station level upward.

Some of the aggrieved members also shared their concerns with the media, calling for transparency and equal treatment in the electoral process.
