The Public Accounts Committee of Parliament has begun public hearings on the Auditor General’s report for the 2024 financial year.
Committee Chairperson Abena Osei Asare opened the session with an assurance that she will build on the work of her predecessor, James Kwame Avedzi. She stressed that the hearings are not a formality but an important exercise to safeguard public funds.
“The work of this committee is not just a ritual. It is a national duty to protect the public purse,” she said.
Officials from several ministries appeared before the committee, including the Ministry of Communication and Digital Technology, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ministries were cited in the Auditor General’s report for various infractions. They were represented by MPs Agnes Naa Momo Lartey and James Gyekye Quayson.
