The Chairperson of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Abena Osei-Asare, says the committee has completed more than 60 percent of the cases referred to it from the 2024 Auditor-General’s Report, a step she describes as key to ensuring accountability and value for public spending.
Speaking at the end of the committee’s recent sittings, Mrs Osei-Asare commended members for their dedication, singling out the Ranking Member, Samuel Atta-Mills, for his cooperation and commitment throughout the process.
She said the committee reviewed 16 reports from the Auditor-General, completing work on 10 of them. “The outstanding ones will require fieldwork outside Accra. We plan to tackle those in the regional districts starting next year,” she said.
During the sittings, several ministries and agencies appeared before the committee to respond to audit findings.
The Deputy Minister of Finance, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, and the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu, led agencies under their supervision, including the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), the Ghana News Agency (GNA), and the Ghana Publishing Company, among others.
Mrs Osei-Asare thanked all who supported the committee’s work, saying their efforts have helped strengthen Parliament’s oversight role and promote transparency in the management of public funds.
