Today, Thursday 2nd January 2025, I am in Elmina to celebrate Edina Bronya. I remember that as a child, that is when aunties, uncles and other relatives came home to remember those who had gone ahead to the other world and to consider their lives. I met my cousins and children of other adults present.
It was a special, fun time. We got new clothes, mine from Tailor Gilbert, and ate cabin biscuits, drank muscatela and other sweet drink.
There was a night before of remembrance, crying and storytelling about relatives dead and gone and adult drinking accompanied by much laughter.
On this January 2nd, I am at “akor do” with food, drinks and money to thank God and ancestors for giving me the courage and smarts to survive these eight years. Sickness, disappointments, losses, loads of debts, wickedness and evil.
I have written a letter to my mother Auntie Monica and my father Master/Uncle Hubster/Oduro. I have told them what has been done to me, my family and companies. I have mentioned the names of the perpetrators one by one including the betrayers under my own roof. I was at the Elmina cemetery earlier today to look for my mother, my father, uncles and aunties, my sister and my grandparents and say a prayer for their souls and thank them for making me who I am.
I have now joined other family members at the family gathering place. We will say a Christian prayer and pour libation. We will read from a book of names and call on all our ancestors especially Nana Buturnyen who was with the first family members that settled in Teterkessim, Elmina.
I will ask for good health, strength, wisdom, and continuing faith to carry on the mission of reconstruction for Groupe Nduom and the restoration of livelihoods for thousands of citizens.
We will pour libation and pray for God to bless our country Ghana and make the citizens prosperous in 2025.
