Parliament dismisses viral video claiming Speaker Bagbin met with President Akufo-Addo

A video circulating on social media suggesting that Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin met with the President to negotiate a settlement regarding four vacant parliamentary seats has been debunked by Parliament.

In a statement, Parliament described the video as “disingenuous” and “unfortunate,” emphasizing that it’s entirely false.

According to Parliament, the video was actually taken on July 4, 2024, when Speaker Alban Bagbin led a delegation to present the maiden democracy cup to the President.

“There is no iota of truth in the insinuation,” the statement read.

Parliament is urging the public to disregard the video and “treat the narrative with the contempt it deserves.”

This comes after the Speaker’s pronouncement on October 17, 2024, in response to the Minority Leader’s call to declare the seats of four MPs vacant.
