The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has summoned the Electoral Commission (EC) to appear before the House by next week.
The summons follows concerns raised by the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, regarding certain decisions taken by the EC during the limited voter registration exercise and the ongoing voter transfer exercise.
In his welcome remarks, the Majority Leader, Mr. Alexander Afenyo Markin, acknowledged the economic challenges facing the country, but commended President Akufo-Addo for reducing electricity tariffs by 18-30 percent to alleviate the burden on Ghanaians.
He also praised the EC for their work on the limited voter registration and voter transfer exercises, despite acknowledging that the institution is not perfect.
The EC’s appearance before Parliament is expected to address the concerns raised by the Minority Leader and provide clarity on their decisions.
