PassionAir Denies Fuel Shortage Claims After Accra-Takoradi Flight Turnaround

Domestic carrier PassionAir has strongly denied allegations that one of its scheduled flights from Accra to Takoradi was forced to return due to a fuel shortage, calling such claims “false and misleading.”

In a statement released on Saturday, May 31, 2025, the airline clarified that Flight OP 122, which departed Kotoka International Airport at 6:18 a.m., returned to base approximately six minutes after takeoff due to an onboard indication unrelated to fuel.

“Approximately six (6) minutes after takeoff, the Captain elected to return to base due to an indication received in the flight deck not related to fuel,” the statement said. “The aircraft landed safely in Accra, and our ground engineers immediately began diagnostics to address the issue.”

The airline emphasized that all passengers were safely disembarked in accordance with standard safety procedures. Following the identification and rectification of the issue, the aircraft was cleared by engineers, refueled as per standard procedure, and resumed its route under the new designation Flight OP 122A—without further incident.

PassionAir criticized the spread of unverified information, reiterating its commitment to safety and regulatory compliance. “We operate in strict compliance with standards set by our aviation regulator,” the airline stated, urging the public to rely on official communications.

The airline also apologized to affected passengers for the disruption and expressed appreciation for their patience and understanding.

“Our passengers’ safety remains our highest priority,” the statement concluded.
