Pastor loses pregnant wife and unborn child due to alleged negligence at Assin Foso hospital

Pastor Nicholas Asampana has shared the disturbing details of how an alleged medical negligence and recklessness of hospital staff led to the death of his pregnant wife and unborn child at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu.

In a lengthy Facebook post, Pastor Nicholas Asampana narrated the events leading to the tragic loss of his 29-year-old wife, Mrs. Faustina Asampana, affectionately called Sofomaame Fausty, who was five months pregnant.

Pastor Nicholas alleged that the hospital’s staff displayed gross incompetence and negligence, which ultimately led to his wife’s death.

“When you enter this hospital, upon first sight, you get to know the hospital lacks effective supervision. Everyone is doing what he or she likes, even if it’s to the peril of human life,” he wrote.

He recounted how his wife was initially admitted to the emergency ward, only to be turned away by staff at the maternity ward, who claimed there were no available beds.

Pastor Nicholas expressed his outrage at the hospital’s handling of his wife’s case, stating, “My wife had bitterly complained of inability to pass solid waste for a week…even when they saw their prescription of her eating bananas and orange was not working.”

He also alleged that the hospital staff ignored his suggestions to induce labor or perform an emergency cesarean section to save his wife’s life.

According to Pastor Nicholas, his wife’s oxygen supply was switched off at one point, and when he questioned the staff, they seemed unconcerned.

The bereaved husband recounted how his wife’s condition deteriorated, and she eventually died on the way to another hospital, where she was being transferred for further treatment.

Pastor Nicholas Asampana has filed an official complaint with the Ghana Health Service, the Medical and Dental Council, and the Ministry of Health, among others.

“Their untimely deaths resulted from gross negligence and unprofessional conduct by staff at Assin Foso St. Francis Xavier Hospital…I will stand in and take very good care of Mummy, until when our Lord shall find it worthy to call me to Himself and present you and Kwadwo back to me,” he noted.
