Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Smith, has been honoured by the Pennsylvania Senate in recognition of his leadership and sustained efforts to promote investment, strengthen economic diplomacy, and deepen commercial relations between Ghana and the United States.
The recognition was presented on Saturday, June 27, 2026, in Philadelphia, just hours before Ghana’s Black Stars played their final FIFA World Cup group-stage match against Croatia.
Earlier in the day, Ambassador Smith addressed a trade and investment forum, where he called on American investors and members of the Ghanaian diaspora to collaborate in expanding investment, trade, and business opportunities in Ghana.
The citation, read on behalf of the Pennsylvania Senate by Chief of Staff Aisha Richardson and signed by Senator Sharif T. Street of Pennsylvania’s 3rd Senatorial District, commended Ambassador Smith for his outstanding contributions to diplomacy, international trade, and economic development.
Receiving the honour, Ambassador Smith expressed his appreciation to the Senate and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening partnerships between Ghana and the United States to deliver shared economic benefits.
“I am deeply honoured by this recognition,” he said, adding that the Embassy would continue working to facilitate stronger investment and trade relationships that create opportunities for businesses and citizens in both countries.
The investment forum featured several Ghanaian institutions, including the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), and the Ghana Free Zones Authority, all of which showcased opportunities available to prospective investors.
The Philadelphia event followed a similar trade and investment forum held in Boston, where Ghana’s Embassy leveraged the country’s participation in the FIFA World Cup to engage the Ghanaian diaspora and American business leaders while promoting Ghana as an attractive destination for investment and trade.
The Embassy says these strategic engagements form part of its broader economic diplomacy agenda, aimed at converting Ghana’s heightened international visibility into tangible economic gains through increased investment, expanded exports, stronger business partnerships, and support for the government’s economic transformation programme.
