PHOTOS: Families and Friends honour J.J. Rawlings on fifth anniversary of his passing

A solemn ceremony at the Military Cemetery in Burma Camp on Wednesday marked five years since the passing of former President Jerry John Rawlings.

The event, led by Lt. Col (Rev. Father) Benjamin Kwesi Effah, brought together members of Rawlings’ family, including his children and the head of the Agbotui family, Colonel Joshua Agbotui. The children laid a wreath on behalf of the family, paying tribute to their late father.

Plans for a larger public commemoration of the fifth anniversary were postponed following the death of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the former president’s wife, on October 23, 2025. Rawlings passed away on November 12, 2020.

The quiet gathering at the cemetery reflected both mourning and respect, as family and close friends remembered the former leader and his contributions to the nation.
