Plastic Manufacturers and partners call off protest after dialogue with government

The Ghana Plastic Manufacturers’ Association (GPMA) and its partners, including the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), the National Association of Sachet & Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP), the Food & Beverage Association of Ghana (FABAG), and the Plastic Sellers Association of Ghana (PSAG), have rescinded their decision to stage a protest against a 5% Excise Tax on all locally manufactured plastic products.

The group which had announced the decision to follow their protest with production shutdown, in a statement on Monday, July 8, 2024, said it has received a positive response from the government after dialogue with Deputy Minister of Trades and Industry Michael Okyere Baafi.

According to the collective organizations, the Deputy Minister has assured them that he will facilitate further engagements and dialogue with the government and immediately trigger the necessary mechanisms and procedures to stop the implementation of the 5% Excise Tax.

“We have called-off our intended demonstration that was scheduled for the 10th July 8, 2024. We have put on HOLD our intended plan to SHUT-DOWN production”
