Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested a 25-year-old man after an alleged armed robbery attempt on the Hiakose-Newense stretch in the Manso Nkwanta District.
The suspect, identified as Francis Nsiah, was arrested after seeking medical treatment for a gunshot wound he allegedly sustained during the incident on Friday, August 7, 2026.
The Nkawie Divisional Police Command said its operations patrol team received a distress call at about 11pm reporting an armed robbery in progress along the Hiakose-Newense road.
Officers who rushed to the area said they heard gunshots as they approached the scene.
They then spotted one of the suspected robbers running into a nearby bush with a bag and pursued him.
A search of the area later led to the recovery of an iPhone 14 and a bag believed to belong to some of the victims.
Police subsequently received information that one of the suspected robbers had gone to a medical facility for treatment after sustaining a gunshot wound.
Officers went to the facility and arrested Nsiah.
He was found to have sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his buttock and is currently receiving treatment under police guard.
Police said investigations are continuing to establish what happened and identify other suspects who may have been involved in the alleged robbery.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting and how Nsiah sustained the injury are also expected to form part of the investigation.
