Police have arrested the prime suspect in the gang assault on a Social Studies teacher at Kade Senior High School in the Eastern Region.
CrimeCheck confirmed the arrest and said the suspect is in custody and assisting investigators. The development has heightened pressure on authorities as the National Association of Graduate Teachers warns it may call a nationwide strike if justice is not served.
The incident has shocked parents, teachers and education officials. The teacher is recovering after a group of students attacked him on the school compound.
According to students and staff, he is known for enforcing strict rules meant to restore discipline and was allegedly targeted by those who opposed his methods.
A video that has circulated widely online shows several students ambushing the teacher, hitting him with tree branches and slapping him while he tried to protect himself. The footage has fuelled public outrage and renewed calls for stronger measures against school indiscipline.
School authorities say they are cooperating with the Ghana Education Service to fully investigate the assault and identify every student involved.
They have assured the public that disciplinary action will follow once the facts are confirmed.
GES officials say the safety of teachers and students remains a priority, adding that they will take further action if necessary to maintain order on the campus.
