The Ghana Police Service has stepped up its nationwide campaign against the unauthorised use of sirens, strobe lights, beacon lights and other illegal vehicle modifications, with a two-day enforcement exercise in the Western and Western Central regions.
The operation, carried out from July 17 to 18 in Sekondi-Takoradi and Tarkwa, involved officers from the National Police Headquarters, the Western Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), and the Western Central Regional MTTD.
In all, police intercepted 789 vehicles during the exercise. Of these, 57 were found using unauthorised sirens, while 732 had illegal strobe lights or improvised lamps installed.
The illegal accessories were removed and confiscated on the spot. Drivers who violated the regulations were also educated on the Road Traffic Regulations and issued warning letters.
Furthermore, the Police engaged the public through radio discussions and other media platforms to raise awareness about the dangers of unauthorised vehicle modifications and the need to comply with road traffic laws.
The Ghana Police Service says similar operations will be rolled out across the country as part of efforts to improve road safety and ensure motorists comply with the law.
