Police dismiss claims on Vormawor’s hospital bills

The Ghana Police Service has dismissed allegations that Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the lead convenor of the #FixTheCountry movement, was returned to police custody from the Police Hospital due to unpaid medical bills

The police described in a statement these claims as “palpable falsehoods” aimed at garnering public sympathy.

“We would like to emphasize that every cost associated with his visit to the hospital was borne by the Ghana Police Service in line with our Standard Operating Procedures with respect to suspects in our custody,” the statement read.

The police also clarified that Barker-Vormawor was not rushed to the hospital, contrary to media reports.

“The public is, therefore, once again urged to disregard these new set of baseless claims in connection with this incident,” the statement concluded.

Barker-Vormawor has been in police custody since September 23, 2024, after being detained during the #StopGalamsey and #OccupyJulorbiHouse protests on September 21, 2024.
