The Ghana Police Service has categorically denied claims that four of its officers were detained for arresting a judge over a traffic offense.
The police described the claims in a statement on Wednesday afternoon (April 23, 2025), as “not just false, but is baseless and without merit.”
The police clarified that the officers in question – Inspector Godwin Dey, Inspector Francis Adjei, No. 53349 G/Sgt Dasebre Oti Boateng, and No. 53852 G/Cpl Jonah Ajubulisa – were invited to the CID headquarters to give their side of the story regarding a petition filed by the judge.
The said petition contained allegations of the four officers harassing, assaulting a court clerk and also wrongfully towing her vehicle from the frontage of the Adenta Court Complex to the Adenta Police Station.
According to the police, after the officers gave their statements, they left the headquarters without being detained.
“We urge the public to disregard the publication and treat it as false and without any basis,” the Police statement read.
The police administration assured the public that it will continue to investigate the case in line with laid-down procedures.
The police also assured that while they will stand by officers who follow the rules in the discharge of their duties, any reported incidents of misconduct will be promptly investigated and necessary actions taken.
However, the police were tight-lipped on disclosing the identity of the clerk in question.
