Police in Techimantia are investigating the death of a 28-year-old man, identified as Kweku, who died shortly after being held in custody.
He had been arrested after his grandmother reported that he had threatened to kill her.
According to early accounts from the community, officers allegedly assaulted Kweku during the arrest.
Residents also claim he went a full day without food while in custody, leaving him weak. Police rushed him to the Techimantia Government Hospital when his condition worsened, but he was pronounced dead.
The Police Service says it has opened an inquiry into the circumstances leading to his death, including what happened during the arrest and while he was in custody.
Officials say the outcome of the investigation will guide the next steps.
