Calm has returned to Sampa in the Bono Region after a violent clash between two rival groups, Sammordua and Sambga Gyafla, at the town’s main market on Sunday, October 5, 2025.
The Bono Regional Police Command confirmed that several stores were burnt during the exchange of gunfire between the two factions. Police officers responding to a distress call were also caught in the crossfire.
According to the Police, officers rushed to the scene to restore order and to escort a Ghana National Fire Service tender and an ambulance carrying a pregnant woman to hospital. However, the officers came under fire from the rival groups, resulting in injuries to some of them.
The Police service vehicle, registered GP 686, veered into a ditch during the incident. The injured officers were taken to the Sampa Government Hospital, where seven were treated and discharged. One officer, who suffered a head injury, has been referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for further treatment.
Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer for the Bono Regional Police Command, said patrols have since been intensified in the area to maintain peace.
“The situation remains calm, and every effort is being made to arrest all individuals involved in the disturbances,” he assured.
The cause of the clash between the two factions remains unclear, but investigations are ongoing.
