The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of strict measures to maintain peace and order during the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
Inspector General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno and members of the Police Management Board met political parties on Tuesday, August 19, to discuss security arrangements for the poll. The meeting allowed the Police Service to outline its plans and listen to concerns from the parties.
Political representatives welcomed the engagement and called for fairness and transparency in security deployment to boost trust in the process.
Earlier this month, the IGP held a series of consultations with other key stakeholders. On August 12, the Police met the Electoral Commission to discuss coordination and the commission’s roadmap for the election. A day later, they engaged the Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG), which raised concerns about electoral security and transparency.
Police say these engagements will continue as operational plans are finalized to guarantee a peaceful by-election.
