The Ghana Para-Powerlifting Association (GPPA) in collaboration with the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) are set to organise a one-day National Para-Powerlifting Championship scheduled for December 3, 2024.
This year’s competition coincided with World Disability Day, on the theme, “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future”
In a press release signed by Mr. Majeed Deen, Coordinator of the GPPA, it said the competition would also be used to select athletes into the national para powerlifting team.
“The event would also serve as identification and unearthing of potential athletes in preparation towards mandatory qualification events for 2025,” the statement said.
The association will also use the opportunity to “educate the members of the association and athletes about the new rules of the game and the next structural plan for the athletes”
Over fifty para-powerlifters or athletes across five regions of Ghana are expected to partake in this year’s National Para-Powerlifting Championship.
