Ghanaians are being encouraged to come together in prayer, thanksgiving and reflection as preparations begin for the second National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, an event aimed at promoting unity and national development.
Speaking at the launch of the programme, Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, said the occasion would provide an opportunity for people of different faiths to seek God’s guidance and wisdom for the country’s progress.
The event is being held under the theme, “Resetting Our Values to Build the Ghana We Want”, and is expected to bring together Christians, Muslims, traditional leaders, government officials and other stakeholders.
Mr Afriyie Ankrah said Ghana’s development depended not only on effective leadership and sound policies but also on spiritual guidance and a shared commitment to national values.
“This is another time for us as a nation to unite in prayer. Despite our differences, we all share a common goal of building a prosperous and peaceful Ghana under God’s guidance,” he said.
He noted that faith continued to play an important role in national life and remained a key force in promoting peace, unity and social cohesion.
According to him, the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving offers citizens an opportunity to reflect on the country’s journey, express gratitude for its blessings and seek divine direction for the future.
Mr Afriyie Ankrah also urged Ghanaians to view the country’s religious and cultural diversity as a strength rather than a source of division.
“Our diversity is not our weakness; it is our strength. It is what makes us unique as a nation and provides us with an opportunity to demonstrate unity in diversity,” he said.
He called on religious leaders, traditional authorities, civil society organisations and citizens to actively participate in the event and contribute to discussions on values, patriotism and national development.
Organisers believe the observance will strengthen national unity and inspire citizens to embrace the values needed to help build a stronger and more prosperous Ghana.
