President Akufo-Addo dismisses NSA Director General Dodzie Numekevor over CAF stadium ban

Ghana President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has relieved Dodzie Numekevor, Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), of his duties with immediate effect.

This decision comes after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) revoked Baba Yara Sports Stadium’s license to host international matches.

The dismissal is reportedly linked to the stadium being rented out for a six-day church event before Ghana’s crucial AFCON 2025 qualifier against Angola.

President Akufo-Addo had expressed dissatisfaction with the management of sports facilities and warned Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif that he would be held responsible if Ghana is forced to play its home matches outside the country.

Numekevor, who had until September 18, 2024, to respond to a query from the Sports Ministry regarding the stadium rental, was dismissed on Tuesday afternoon.

Before his removal, he had ordered the closure of Baba Yara, Accra, and Cape Coast stadia for maintenance following CAF’s recommendations for upgrades.
