President-elect John Dramani Mahama and outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo are set to meet today at Jubilee House to initiate the transition process.
This meeting is a significant step towards ensuring a peaceful transfer of power.
Akufo-Addo has already congratulated Mahama on his victory and pledged his administration’s full cooperation for a seamless transition on January 7, 2025.
John Mahama polled 6,328,397, representing 56.55%, while his closest contender, the vice president and presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, secured 4,657,304, representing 41.61%.
During a phone conversation, Akufo-Addo commended Mahama on his win and pledged his administration’s full cooperation for a seamless transfer of power.
“I remain committed to facilitating a seamless transition process,” Akufo-Addo assured, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful handover.
He also congratulated the Electoral Commission and the Ghanaian people for a successful election that reflects the enduring strength of Ghana’s democracy.
Akufo-Addo urged all Ghanaians to unite and work together to consolidate democracy and uphold the rule of law.
“This is a time for collaboration and nation-building. I call on all citizens to work in harmony to further strengthen our democracy,” he stated.
