President Mahama names former Good Morning Ghana host Dr. Randy Abbey as Acting CEO of COCOBOD

President John Dramani Mahama has named former Good Morning Ghana host Dr. Ransford Anertey Abbey as acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).

The appointment was in compliance with Section 12(2) of the Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 1984 (P.N.D.C.L. 81) and Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution.

Dr. Callistus Mahama, the President’s Executive Secretary, in a letter dated January 21, 2025, available to Metro TV noted that  “Dr. Abbey’s appointment is effective immediately and will remain in place pending the constitutionally required advice of the COCOBOD Board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.”

President Mahama congratulated Dr. Abbey on his new position and wished him luck, expressing confidence in his capacity to lead the institution efficiently.

Dr. Abbey’s appointment is expected to inject new energy and strategic direction into COCOBOD, a critical body in Ghana’s cocoa industry.

COCOBOD’s operations are important to supporting the livelihoods of millions of farmers while also contributing to national revenue.
